I realized I haven’t blogged in a long time!! It’s the week before our 2 week winter break. Motivation is hard to find this time of year. I mostly have the urge to eat and shop. Since I last blogged we got our rotation spots and I’m going to Phoenix, which I’m very excited about because it’s somewhere I’ve never lived. I’ve been in the Midwest for a long time so it will be nice to go somewhere new.
One thing I’ve realized is that I know nothing about what is happening politically related to medicine and I wish that wasn’t the case so over break hopefully I do some reading about that. Not that I like to comment or debate it but I think it is important to be aware (which I’m not!)
Oh and KCOM Prom was last weekend which was super fun so maybe I’ll put up pics when I get some.
This week we had 2 exams and Infectious Disease case presentations. It was very busy and I spent a lot of time at the library. I am so excited for the weekend even though we have another exam Monday. It does feel good to at least be done with a few tests though.
Last weekend was the Red Barn Craft Festival in downtown Kirksville. There was amazing art, food, and jewelry from surrounding areas. I really like having fun things to do even when school is really busy because I just need to get distracted to stay sane. I will not be studying at all today because I really need a day off after this week. I did get my Halloween costume together though so that was an achievement.

Fork and Cork

Finish Line at NEMO
This weekend was particularly eventful. Yesterday I went to the Fork and Cork festival in Macon, MO (30 minute drive from Kirksville.) There was delicious food, crafts, and wine from West Winery. The winery opened up a new location in downtown Macon, which is in a very modern loft-like space. OH yeah and their wine is amazing.
Last night was the Disco Skate Party at Leisure world. YES WE WORE 70S OUTFITS AND SKATED ON ROLLER SKATES! It was a blast!
Today was the NEMO triathalon at Thousand Hills State Park.
0.75 mile swim 18 mile bike 5 mile run
I did NOT participate, but it was a lot of fun to watch classmates and professors partake in this impressive athletic event. I was part of the stretch clinic and we helped stretch out athletes after the race. It was a great way to practice some OMM. It’s also great to see that people still have time do fun things like this while in medical school or are practicing physicians.
Conclusion of the weekend: it is crucial to have fun while in medical school because you can’t let the world pass you by while you bury your nose in books.
