About Us
The Western Clinicians Network (WCN) is a non-profit organization interested in education, research, training and policy in health care for the underserved. Our clinician members comprise the safety net of providers in diverse communities in Region IX of the Bureau of Primary Health Care (Arizona, Nevada, California, Hawaii and the Pacific). WCN depends on the support of each state’s Primary Care Association and its effectiveness is determined by our membership. The more involved our clinicians are in this network, the more able we will be to secure funding, direct training and research, develop policy, and provide leadership and support of our constituents, and improve the health and care of the underserved.
Some of our on-going successes and goals for this year:
- Provide a mechanism and forum for networking with other providers in the region and share ideas, concerns, tools and projects;
- Disseminate an electronic newsletter at least quarterly;
- Continue the Annual Clinical Excellence Award;
- Annual Clinical Director’s Management Training conferences;
- Liaise with the California PCA to provide clinical oversight for the Chronic Disease Collaboratives;
- Endorse and distribute a provider orientation module;
- Explore the development of a shared peer review process for clinics;
- Develop and communicate a strategic plan for the organization;
- Develop a research capability to explore such questions as
- “What are the costs/savings of a chronic disease program?”
- “How do most clinics manage clinical and administrative time?”
We also are modifying our by-laws to allow for corporate or institutional memberships to increase the participation of front-line clinicians and to foster communication. The board of WCN believes that we are achieving the critical mass of active participation of clinicians necessary to accomplish better providers, better systems and better care for our patients.
